Nepal in Pictures

Pictures speak a thousand words, indeed they do. I've been going through all the pictures from my visit to Nepal this summer and just by looking at them I could relive certain moments and experiences. I thought instead of continuing writing about my experiences from my previous post, I'd share some photos for you to get an insight into them. This is a summary of my days in Nepal documented in pictures. I've tried to put them in chronological order as best as I can remember

Day 1: Coffee at Himalayan Java, Thamel to kickstart our trip

Dinner with the cousins at Tamarind, Jhamel

I wish I could remember what my cousin said

At Garden of Dreams with Bide and P

Outside Narayanhiti Palace

Strawberry gola, disappointed it wasn't what I expected

View from Dharara

Translation: Please don't spit at the walls

Green tea Latte after getting up those endless stairs to reach the top at Dharara

Outside the residences of the Kumari, Basantapur

People wait as the clocks strike 4 to get a glimpse of the Kumari

People casually hanging around in Basantapur

Enroute to our gau, lunch at Riverside Resort. I look a mess and I'm only smiling because I booked a horse ride!

Her name was Bijuli

I miss these cuties, kids from the village

Traffic and sunset, a completely different view on the road

Patan Durbar Square

Entrance to Patan Museum

Inside the museum

Traditional Newari windows

A gali (street) in Patan

Nikki's bday celebration in a cafe (I forgot the name) and dinner at Moksh.
The lights went out (load shedding) and so we had a candle lit dinner

Spending time = eating with our cousin who was also back in town

The only pain puri I got to devour (I bet the street vendors' ones were much better)

Swayambhunath

Swayambhu

I wanted to buy everything, Swayambhu

A shop selling exquisite paintings, Swayambhu
Lighting lamps in the dark, Boudha

Jewellery inside a shop in Boudha

The square that surrounds Boudhanath

Boudhanath

We couldn't go inside but I had to take a peek

I love the incorporation of animals in this

Boudha's infamous spicy delicacy, Laphing. I'd never had it before and P had often talked about it.

So good…especially after the spicy treat earlier

Dinner at Le Trio, Jhamel with the sister, cousins, instructor, P…the lot!

P and I thought we'd indulge (as if we hadn't enough), I couldn't finish mine

Le Trio is renowned for its "jhol momo"

Pote bazaar with P

P and I got henna, it was Teej too

The best lassi in town, Janakpur lassi

Hanging out in Basantapur with P

Dinner with P and her sister at Nanglo, Durbar Marg. Second time I ate there and it was alright

Basantapur at night, after I'd  joined my sister and her friends

Evening stroll in Basantapur was nice, getting lost amidst the people and observing the surrounding whereabouts

Late night tea at Himalayan Java, Basantapur

Lunch with Savita ma'am and P before leaving for Chitwan

Traditional dokos, en route to Chitwan our car was playing up so we had to stop for a bit

Stopped again for some food. I spotted these stalls right next to the highway. Pears anyone?

Dinner at our hotel in Chitwan after a long journey

Our hotel

We were just coming out of our hotel and I saw an elephant casually walking down the road, I had to run and take a picture.

Jungle safari, elephants await

We got to see a one horn rhino

Canoe ride

Around here we saw some crocodiles

On our way to the elephant breeding centre

Elephant Bath in Chitwan. Her name was Pawankali :) And no I didn't ask for the life jacket it was mandatory.

Mahendra Gufa (cave), Pokhara

The water makes these natural patterns on the rocks in the cave

Early morning (cheat) trek

You won't starve anywhere

 World Peace Stupa

Boat ride across Phewa Lake, cool as a cucumber. We took the short cut as some of us were…

…let's just say less so

My new friend…this boy was telling me all about the different fishes

Colourful boats local to Pokhara

As we had breakfast we saw the first lot of people who were paragliding come down, I was next…

People preparing to take off

Look familiar? My ride back to the hotel ;)

Quick bite to eat and we were on the road back home, our road trip had come to an end
